New details are emerging in the disturbing case of a Colorado man who told authorities he “accidentally” shot his wife while clearing his gun — and then performed CPR for an hour before calling 911. Investigators now say the story doesn’t add up.

David O’Grady, 37, is facing charges of first-degree murder and domestic violence in the Sept. 7 shooting death of his wife, 29-year-old Taylor Dawn Last, at their home on Shawnee Way in Aurora. According to newly released documents, O’Grady’s explanation of what happened has shifted since the day of the incident.

At the time of his arrest, O’Grady told dispatchers he accidentally discharged his firearm while clearing it the night before and immediately tried to save his wife, claiming he spent about an hour attempting CPR before finally calling 911. But investigators now believe he waited several hours before making that call.

When deputies arrived around 7:45 a.m., O’Grady reportedly admitted that Taylor had already been dead for hours. Officers found her on the floor, lying on her back with one arm on her chest. Court documents say her body was cold and stiff, suggesting she had been dead long before help was requested.

According to the affidavit, the couple had been arguing about a party when the confrontation escalated. O’Grady allegedly acknowledged that he knew the gun was loaded, fired a round into the bed, and then pointed the gun at Taylor as she entered the room before pulling the trigger. She was struck in the chest and died at the scene.

The couple’s two children, ages 6 and 4, were asleep in a bedroom across the hall during the shooting. Investigators say the children later told them they heard yelling, followed by a loud bang that startled them awake. They also claimed they saw their father throw something at Taylor before she collapsed onto the bed, and that “broken colorful things” were scattered on the floor — items that were no longer present when deputies arrived.

O’Grady’s mother was also inside the home at the time of the shooting.

As the investigation continues, Taylor’s family is mourning her loss. In a GoFundMe created by her aunt, the killing is described as “an unimaginable tragedy” that leaves the couple’s two young daughters without both parents — their mother deceased and their father behind bars.

“She was a loving mother to her two beautiful little girls,” the fundraiser says. “The unthinkable happened.”
