A hunting trip in upstate New York ended in a horrifying tragedy after three brothers got into an argument inside their cabin — and police say one of them opened fire, killing the other two before taking off in one of their vehicles.

New York State Police announced that 65-year-old Scot Thompson of Englewood, Florida, has been arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree criminal use of a firearm. The victims were identified as his brothers, 70-year-old Mark Thompson of Canterbury, Connecticut, and 69-year-old David Thompson of Port Charlotte, Florida.

According to investigators, the brothers were staying together at a hunting cabin on Botsford Hollow Road in the small town of Allen in Allegany County. Around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, an argument broke out. One of the men managed to call 911, but when officers arrived, they discovered two of the brothers dead inside the cabin.

Police say Scot used a rifle during the argument before fleeing the scene in David’s vehicle.

A search involving multiple agencies — including the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police — tracked down the car the next morning. Scot was taken into custody around 8:27 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, and later turned over to state police for processing.

He is currently being held in the Allegany County jail, according to online records. It’s not yet known if he has an attorney.
