A California woman with a shocking criminal past was killed in a drive-by shooting in Stockton, authorities confirmed.
Obdulia Sanchez, 24, was shot on Tuesday, Dec. 2, in what the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office described as a drive-by incident. Another person was injured, but no arrests have been made.
Sanchez was notorious for a tragic crash in 2017 that killed her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline. At the time, Sanchez, then 18, was driving drunk and live-streamed the crash on Instagram, even continuing to stream after both sisters were ejected from the car. Footage captured her panicked admission: “I f—— killed my sister, okay. I know I’m going to jail for life, alright? I understand that. This is the last thing I wanted to happen.”
She was sentenced to six years in prison for gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and child endangerment and was released on parole in 2019, though she was re-arrested later that year.
Neither sister had been wearing a seatbelt during the crash. At her sentencing, Sanchez tearfully asked, “Why did God choose me to be the older sister? I can’t even do my job right. I had so much potential, but I threw it all away because I wanted to look cool and drive carelessly.”
Her death comes just days after a deadly mass shooting at a Stockton birthday party that left four people, including three children, dead. Authorities have not linked the two incidents, and the suspect in Sanchez’s shooting has not been identified.
