A Texas man tragically died when a pickup truck crashed into his first-floor apartment while he was allegedly sleeping.
Raidel Liranza Alvarez, 39, was struck by a red pickup truck that veered into his ground-level apartment in Fort Worth on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Fort Worth Police responded to the scene around 6:25 p.m. near the 4600 block of Sycamore School Road, according to KVUE. Alvarez’s sister, his only close relative in the state, lives nearby. Neighbors believe he was likely asleep at the time because he worked night shifts.
Police say the truck lost control and crashed into the apartment complex. The driver remained at the scene and took a standardized field sobriety test, which showed no signs of impairment.
Officer Buddy Calzada told Fox 4 that the crash is still under investigation. “We’ll have our investigators gather evidence from the vehicle to see if there’s any mechanical failure, and we’re looking for witnesses or video footage that may show what happened,” he said.
Fort Worth Police spokesperson Daniel Segura added that investigators are examining the speed of the vehicle and what caused it to lose control.
Neighbors expressed shock and sadness over the accident. “I’m very sad … I’m confused,” Angela Kimberling told KVUE. Donna Phillips, another neighbor, described Alvarez as “a good person” and said he “had dreams … he was on a journey. He was like a son to me. Always willing to help me.”
Alvarez’s sister, Lorena Garcia, has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. “I am raising funds for my brother’s funeral; he passed away on December 2, 2025. Our family is deeply saddened, and I was the only family he had close by,” she wrote.
