A Florida man is behind bars after police say he tried to kill his 82-year-old mother with a frying pan because he didn’t want to care for her following her early dementia diagnosis.
According to court records, 53-year-old Keith Evan Woodward has been charged with attempted murder after the alleged attack on Sunday inside the Coral Springs home the pair shared. A probable cause affidavit obtained by local outlet WPLG states that Woodward admitted he wanted to kill his mother because she needed “constant assistance.”
The incident reportedly began around 11:20 a.m., when Woodward and his mother were trying to find a caretaker’s phone number. She went to lie down in her bedroom—at which point police say Woodward grabbed a frying pan from the kitchen, followed her inside, and began hitting her with it.
What happened next was described in the affidavit as a “violent struggle.” Woodward allegedly climbed on top of his mother and tried to smother her with pillows. She fought back by pushing, pinching, and repeatedly screaming that she couldn’t breathe.
Despite her age, the victim managed to slip out from under him, fall to the floor, and run outside for help while her son chased after her. Woodward eventually stopped, reportedly overcome with guilt, and called police on himself—telling them he was “going to hell” for what he had done.
Paramedics arrived to find the woman alert and conscious, but suffering from severe bruising. Doctors were still assessing the full extent of her injuries when the affidavit was filed.
Woodward was taken into custody and is now being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.

This guy is 53? He looks like he is in his 70s.
So many crazy people are now in Florida.
