A Georgia man is facing serious charges after police say he brutally killed his girlfriend and then fled the scene with another woman he had met online.

Mystique Malachi Amaziah Taylor, 23, has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another person. Authorities say his girlfriend, Kaylee B. Shackelford, 20, was stabbed and beaten to death with a baseball bat. Her body was later found covered with blankets outside an apartment complex.

Another woman, Rolanda Monique Edwards, 25, is also facing charges, including being a party to a crime, concealing a death, and hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

According to the Rome Police Department, officers were called to the area near Hull Avenue and Cedar Avenue around noon on Tuesday after a body was reported. When they arrived, they discovered Shackelford’s body. Witnesses told police they saw a red car in the area shortly before the discovery.

Police later located the vehicle about 20 miles away in Bartow County. After a brief pursuit, officers arrested both suspects.

Investigators say Taylor and Shackelford were in a relationship at the time of her death, and that Taylor had recently begun an online relationship with Edwards.

During a bond hearing, a judge said Taylor allegedly stabbed Shackelford multiple times in the neck, chest, and face before striking her in the head with a baseball bat, according to local NBC affiliate WXIA. Authorities have not publicly released a motive and noted that neither Taylor nor Shackelford was from the Rome area. Shackelford lived in Powell, Tennessee, roughly 160 miles from where her body was found.

On Friday, police added a feticide charge against Taylor after learning that Shackelford was pregnant at the time of her death.

Taylor is currently being held without bond. Edwards was granted bond set at $5,000.
