A Florida physician was tragically found dead inside a Dollar Tree freezer in Miami, just a day after she entered the store, leaving her family and the community in shock.
Authorities say 32-year-old Massiell Garay Sanchez, a devoted mother and anesthesiologist, was discovered by an employee around 8 a.m. Sunday. Garay Sanchez had gone into the store the night before but did not make any purchases. Investigators believe she found her way into a restricted employees-only area, where a large freezer was located, and stayed there overnight.
Miami police confirmed she was not an employee, and foul play has been ruled out. The circumstances of her death remain under investigation.
“It’s something painful, a family heartbroken now because of the death of a person, and we don’t know what truly happened,” customer Gerardo Nunez told Local 10 News.
Garay Sanchez was originally from Nicaragua and was recognized for her work as an anesthesiologist specializing in congenital heart disease, helping children and families in need. Her family described her as “a loving mother to two children, who remain in Nicaragua and were the center of her world.” They said her compassion, skill, and dedication to saving young lives defined both her career and her character.
A GoFundMe set up by her family to bring her body back to Nicaragua for a funeral had raised over $2,600 by Monday morning.
The Dollar Tree location remained closed until about 1 p.m. Sunday while police conducted their investigation. Authorities are speaking with Garay Sanchez’s family and looking into whether she had been dealing with personal or mental health issues.
Her death is currently classified as an unclassified death, and police have not released further details.
This story sounds suspicious to me. Why would she walk into a freezer? Maybe someone put her there.
If this woman inadvertently walked into a walk-in freezer and the door shut , all freezer must have a lock that the person inside can open it.Should be thoroughly investigated
