A Texas plastic surgeon, who has built a reputation for his precision and patient care, is now facing serious legal trouble after being indicted for allegedly performing surgery while intoxicated.

Dr. Azul Shirazali Jaffer, 50, is charged with a felony for performing surgery while under the influence, according to the Sugar Land Police Department. The incident occurred in August, but it’s unclear whether Jaffer was intoxicated from alcohol or drugs at the time of the procedure. Jaffer, who has been practicing plastic surgery for over 20 years, is listed as a five-star-rated physician with an office in Houston on his personal website.

Dr. Jaffer’s website boasts that he is “known for his precision and artistry” and that he delivers “unparalleled patient care,” focusing on facial, breast, and body procedures. It claims that patient safety is a top priority and that he is committed to providing “natural-looking results.” However, the recent allegations raise serious concerns about his professional conduct.

This is not the first time Jaffer has faced accusations of wrongdoing. Earlier this year, he was sued by a patient who claimed he sexually assaulted her in a recovery room following a breast augmentation surgery in 2022. The lawsuit includes charges of assault, sexual assault, negligence, and emotional distress. Another lawsuit with similar allegations was filed in 2022, though it was later dismissed before the most recent suit was filed this year.

Court documents from the initial case describe the assault claims in graphic detail, with one victim alleging that she woke up in the recovery room to find Jaffer pressing himself against her feet and making inappropriate physical contact. This case, along with the new intoxication charge, has raised serious concerns about the doctor’s conduct.

Jaffer’s office did not respond to inquiries, and his attorney has yet to make a statement. However, the attorney for one of the alleged victims told the Houston Chronicle that the investigation into Jaffer’s alleged actions is ongoing, with additional victims reportedly coming forward.
