A United States Postal Service driver has been arrested after allegedly trying to run over a 10-year-old boy with his delivery truck following a package mix-up in Florida.
According to reports from local outlets, 41-year-old William White has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft, and criminal mischief after an incident that unfolded on Dec. 27 in Escambia County.
A report from the Florida Highway Patrol says White mistakenly delivered a package to the wrong home on Kingfisher Way. The child who lives at the residence reportedly noticed the package was addressed to someone else and placed it on his electric scooter to return it to the correct address.
Investigators say White saw the boy with the package and believed he was stealing it.
According to the FHP report, White then intentionally drove his USPS truck toward the child, running over the scooter as the boy narrowly escaped into a nearby yard.
“The child was able to get into the nearby yard prior to the scooter being hit,” officials said.
Authorities allege White then removed the damaged scooter from beneath the truck, placed it inside the USPS vehicle, and drove away while yelling at the child.
A relative of the boy followed the postal truck to confront White, at which point White allegedly threw the scooter into another yard before leaving the area.
White was interviewed and arrested on Dec. 31 when he arrived at work, according to the reports. He was later booked into the Escambia County Jail, where records show he posted $5,500 bond.
In a statement, the United States Postal Service said it is investigating the incident alongside local law enforcement.
“The U.S. Postal Service takes the safety and well-being of our customers and employees seriously,” the agency said. “The Postal Inspection Service is actively investigating this issue in partnership with local law enforcement. We can confirm the individual has been employed since 2025. The Postal Service does not publicly comment on personnel matters.”
The investigation remains ongoing.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to drive by the kid and ask him why he took the package and if he was stealing it? The kid probably would have explained that it was addressed to a different house and he was just taking it over to the neighbors. Instead, all this nonsense. These people have no common sense.
I’m sure the FL States Attorney is looking for the easy way out, but I would tell the White and the Post Office, “lawsuit inbound.”
