Woman’s Body Found Cut Up into Pieces Inside Bag Discovered in Basement Apartment

A disturbing discovery has shaken a Brooklyn, NY neighborhood after human remains were found inside the basement of a public housing building.

According to local reports, a janitor discovered a woman’s body around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 1, inside the basement of the Borinquen Public Houses at 330 Bushwick Avenue in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

Employees with the New York City Housing Authority were working on the lower level of the building when they came across a heavy bag, according to WABC. When the bag was opened, workers allegedly found human remains that had been dismembered.

Authorities were immediately called to the scene. Officials believe the remains belong to a woman believed to be in her 50s or 60s, according to WABC.

Crime scene investigators with the New York Police Department were seen removing evidence from the building, including trash bags located inside the incinerator room, as captured by News 12 cameras. Witnesses also reported seeing multiple large bags carried out of the building.

Neighbors described the horrifying moment workers made the discovery. One resident, Vincent Valcassel, told WABC that workers heard screaming after realizing the bags were unusually heavy.

“They opened it up and the first thing they saw was the head staring at them,” Valcassel said. “They ain’t going to be the same anymore. These people work in these buildings.”

Other residents said the discovery has left them frightened and shaken.

“I’m scared out of my mind,” resident Aniel Riveyra told reporters. “I don’t know if this is going to continue happening or if it’s a one-time incident.”

Another resident told News 12 they were horrified by the way the victim was discarded. “To take a lady and leave her like that — we are human beings, we are not trash,” the resident said.

Some neighbors also raised concerns about security inside the building, noting that access to the basement may not be well controlled. “These doors to the buildings are always open,” one resident said. “People bring others in and they do all kinds of things.”

The woman’s body has since been removed from the scene, according to News 12. Her cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner as the investigation continues.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests, and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain under investigation.
