A quiet Washington neighborhood was shattered by gunfire Saturday morning, ending in what police believe may be a murder-suicide that left three adults dead.

Officers with the Olympia Police Department rushed to a home in the Burbank neighborhood of northwest Olympia shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 7. Authorities say they received reports of loud arguing inside the house — followed by the sound of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they made a grim discovery.

Three adults — one man and two women — were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Investigators are now working to determine whether the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. Lt. Paul Lower told local media that authorities do not believe anyone fled the scene.

According to The Olympian, the victims were a 79-year-old woman, a 70-year-old man, and a 66-year-old woman. Two of the victims were found inside the home, while a third was discovered outside.

One neighbor described the terrifying moments leading up to the discovery.

“I heard one gunshot. After that I heard a woman yelling,” the neighbor told KOMO. “I heard one more gunshot and a woman scream again. After the third gunshot, I didn’t hear her anymore.”

Neighbors said an elderly couple had lived in the home for years, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for those who knew them.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victims as they work to notify family members. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they piece together what led to the deadly confrontation.
