What was supposed to be a fun 5-year-old’s birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese turned into chaos after a violent fight broke out — leaving one man in a medically induced coma and two others under arrest.
The shocking incident unfolded Feb. 15 at the popular kids’ arcade in Sylvania Township, a suburb of Toledo, Ohio. According to local station WTVG, the altercation reportedly began inside the bathroom before spilling into the lobby and eventually the parking lot.
Police body camera footage later obtained by WTVG and WTOL shows two groups arguing and throwing punches near parked cars. In one tense moment, an officer appears to try to get a driver out of a vehicle before the car suddenly lurches forward and then reverses, slamming into a pickup truck as people scream nearby.
Authorities arrested two men following the melee: Derrick Jones and Keshawn Fell.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man — identified as the birthday girl’s uncle — was rushed to the hospital after suffering a broken eye socket. He was later placed in a medically induced coma. His name has not been publicly released.
The victim’s sister, who asked not to be identified, described the terrifying moment her brother collapsed during the fight.
“I grabbed my brother, like, ‘Brother. Please talk to me. Talk to me. I’m here,’” she told WTVG. “It was my baby’s birthday. I was throwing this for her. Now my baby is traumatized.”
Another family member said the scene was pure panic, with adults scrambling to shield children from the violence.
“All I could do is grab everybody’s kids and try to get them up against the wall and try to get them away from it,” the victim’s aunt told the outlet. “They were literally running through the whole entire building. And all I could think was to protect the kids.”
One relative expressed disbelief that a fight would erupt in a place designed for children.
“You knew when you went in the bathroom to fight, you knew that this was a kid’s establishment,” the family member said. “You knew that.”
According to WTVG, Jones has been charged with felonious assault, while Fell faces a disorderly conduct charge connected to what happened after the fight. Both men pleaded not guilty and were released on bond.
Police have not released additional details about what sparked the altercation.
