A former small-town mayor is facing explosive accusations in court — and jurors are hearing stunning details about what allegedly happened at a 2024 pool party that ended her political career.
Misty Roberts, 43, once the mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, is on trial for third-degree rape after prosecutors say she had sex with a 16-year-old boy during a booze-fueled gathering at her home. The case has gripped the town of roughly 9,800 residents and drawn intense attention across the region.
One of the most eyebrow-raising revelations in court involves an alleged DoorDash order placed after the encounter.
According to testimony reported by KPLC, the teen’s mother later texted Roberts asking whether she could be pregnant after word of the alleged incident spread. Prosecutors told jurors that Roberts replied she was on birth control. But she allegedly shared a screenshot of that conversation with friends, who advised her to take Plan B.
A DoorDash driver testified that he received an order from someone listed as “Misty C” to purchase emergency contraception and leave it at a residence matching Roberts’ home. He said he later connected the delivery to the allegations after hearing rumors in the community.
The testimony didn’t stop there.
Roberts’ own children were pulled into the courtroom drama. Investigators previously interviewed her son, who said he saw his mother and his friend together through a crack in a window. However, in court, he appeared uncertain about exactly what he witnessed. Prosecutors introduced text messages from that night in which the son alerted his mother that his sister was crying and referenced the teen’s age. Officials later confirmed the boy was 16 at the time.
Roberts’ daughter also took the stand. Jurors heard a recorded interview in which she told detectives she saw her mother and the teen “on top of each other” near the pool area.
Her ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, testified that Roberts admitted to him that she had sex with the minor and that their children caught them. Text messages shown in court revealed Clanton had once encouraged Roberts to deny the allegations publicly. When asked whether he still believed she was a “great mom,” he told jurors he did not.
Witnesses described the party atmosphere as heavy with alcohol. One teen testified that the alleged victim appeared drunk and even vomited at one point. The witness said Roberts was dancing closely with him and flirting. A photo shown to the jury reportedly depicted Roberts in a bikini at the gathering while the teen looked up at her.
Days after law enforcement launched its investigation, Roberts resigned from office during her second term as mayor. She now faces charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.
