A chilling domestic abuse case has ended with a major conviction after a woman’s desperate attempt to escape turned deadly.

Lee Milne, 39, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of culpable homicide in the death of his wife, 28-year-old Kimberly Bruce. The tragic incident happened on July 27, 2023, in Dundee, Scotland, when Kimberly fled onto an overpass and jumped onto the busy A90 below, where she was struck by multiple vehicles.

Prosecutors say this case is groundbreaking—it’s believed to be the first time someone has been held criminally responsible for a partner’s suicide following a trial.

According to investigators, Kimberly’s death came after a long pattern of abuse. Authorities say Milne repeatedly controlled and terrorized her, including restraining her, dragging her, locking her inside their home without food or money, and assaulting her—at times even strangling her.

In the hours leading up to her death, police say the situation escalated dramatically.

Milne was reportedly aggressive throughout the day, shouting at Kimberly, grabbing her, and driving recklessly while she was in the car. CCTV footage captured terrifying moments of her visibly frightened—cowering as he yelled, trying to keep her distance, and even hiding behind a wall.

Witnesses later described her as “scared” and “too frightened” to respond while being confronted.

The footage shows the couple eventually making their way onto a bridge. That’s where Kimberly, seemingly out of options, climbed over the barrier and jumped.

Prosecutors say her decision was directly linked to the fear and abuse she endured.

“Lee Milne physically and psychologically abused Kimberly Bruce, and our evidence showed that this abuse was a significant contributing factor in her death,” said a legal official involved in the case. “He ruthlessly exploited her vulnerabilities.”

Police echoed that, saying Kimberly was left in a “significant state of fear and alarm” in her final moments.

“She was very clearly terrified of him that night,” an investigator said.

Milne will also face an additional three years of supervision after his release.

Officials say the case highlights how victims can become trapped in abusive relationships, often feeling like there’s no way out.
