A former high school basketball coach in Alabama is facing a long list of charges after a grand jury handed down a shocking indictment involving an alleged relationship with a student.

Authorities say 35-year-old Paige Adams was arrested after being hit with 32 charges, including 30 misdemeanor counts accusing her of distributing obscene material to a student.

On top of that, she’s also facing two serious felony charges—one for alleged sexual contact with a student under 19, and another for engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student, according to reports.

Adams previously coached girls’ basketball at Cold Springs High School, though it’s still unclear if the student involved attended that same school.

Officials say concerns were raised earlier this year, triggering an internal investigation by the school district. According to Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette, Adams resigned once the investigation began, and the case was then turned over to law enforcement.

“There was no argument or altercation,” Barnette said, noting that Adams was aware the investigation was ongoing.

Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker didn’t hold back when addressing the case, saying, “This 32-count grand jury indictment speaks for itself.”

School leaders say their top priority remains student safety, emphasizing that they are taking the situation seriously as the legal process moves forward.

Adams is scheduled to be arraigned on May 22 as the case continues to unfold.
