A Michigan couple accused of treating their adopted children like prisoners inside their own home are now facing justice after disturbing allegations revealed the kids were allegedly locked in dog cages, strapped into a homemade straitjacket, and left severely malnourished.
Jessica Klimp, 45, and her husband Jason Klimp, 47, both entered no contest pleas to multiple child abuse charges tied to the horrifying treatment of two of their adopted children, according to Michigan prosecutors.
The shocking case first came to light in February 2024 after one of the children was rushed to a Tennessee hospital suffering from severe dehydration and malnutrition while the family was staying at a rental property.
Investigators say what they uncovered next was even more disturbing.
According to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, authorities discovered that two of the adopted children were dangerously underweight and allegedly survived on liquified food while having only supervised access to meals.
When Michigan State Police searched the family’s home in Wexford County, investigators reportedly found dog cages allegedly used to confine the children, security alarms attached to a bedroom door, and even a homemade straitjacket.
Prosecutors say the couple are parents to four adopted children and four biological children, though the allegations only involve the adopted children. Authorities have not publicly accused the pair of abusing their biological children.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel called the alleged abuse “heartbreaking” and said the children endured unimaginable cruelty inside the home that was supposed to protect them.
“Kids deserve to grow up in a loving home free from abuse,” Nessel said in a statement. “The cruelty that these children endured is heartbreaking, and while no outcome can erase the trauma, I hope these convictions will provide a sense of justice and healing.”
Jason Klimp previously entered his no contest plea in March, while Jessica entered hers on Monday, May 11.
The couple had already faced punishment in Tennessee connected to the same investigation. Prosecutors say both Jessica and Jason pleaded guilty there to aggravated child abuse charges and were sentenced in October 2025 to 10 years behind bars.
Officials said the Tennessee prison sentences will run at the same time as any future Michigan sentence.
Jason is expected to be sentenced on June 16, while Jessica’s sentencing date has not yet been announced.
Authorities also confirmed the couple’s parental rights have been terminated.

Even though they didn’t seem to abuse their natural children, they were psychologically abused seeing what is happening to the adopted kids , seeing them in cages meant for dogs, is a form of abuse that will likely either be an abuser or be abused later in life.
Every day it’s another one of these despicable stories.
If we had judges in this country who weren’t forgiving females or gutless men, scumbags like these two losers would be locked up forever and the word would get out!!!!
I agree
