A Texas man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the brutal killing of a Houston mechanic who was shot in the head after a dispute over a $500 repair bill.

Raudel Orozco, 25, learned his fate Tuesday after pleading guilty to felony murder in the 2022 death of Luis Manuel Casillas, a father of two who was gunned down outside his north Houston auto shop just days before Christmas. Orozco then made a chilling comment to the victim’s family, warning that he would “be out someday.”

Casillas was killed on Dec. 23, 2022, near West Little York Road and the North Freeway.

Authorities said Orozco arrived at the shop with his brother, Rolando Orozco, and four other men after a dispute over a roughly $500 truck repair bill. The group allegedly refused to pay for the work that had been done.

As the confrontation escalated, Casillas reportedly told the men to just take the truck and leave.

But the encounter did not end there.

Witnesses said Casillas tried to run as the men chased him through nearby businesses. His sister, Sandy, later told ABC13 that the group caught up with him, forced him to his knees and shot him point-blank in the head.

“My brother started running,” Sandy said in 2022. “He ran through all the side businesses he could run through. They did catch up to him, and they shot him in the head. Point blank. They put him on his knees, and they shot him in the head.”

According to his family, Casillas begged for his life before he was killed.

“I have a family, just take whatever you want,” he pleaded, according to Sandy.

“He was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle,” Sandy said. “He didn’t deserve this. He begged them, ‘I have a family, just take whatever you want.’ And they said ‘no.’”

Casillas was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.

He left behind a wife and two young daughters, who were just 2 and 3 years old at the time.

The timing made the killing even more heartbreaking for his family. Casillas had planned to use the $500 he was owed to finish buying Christmas gifts for his children.

“Santa was coming with Daddy, but Santa showed up, but Daddy didn’t,” Sandy said after the killing.

On Christmas Day 2022, Casillas’ family gathered at the scene of the shooting and pleaded publicly for justice.

“I’ll be damned if I let this case go cold,” Sandy said at the time. “My brother will get his justice.”

Orozco’s attorney argued that he believed his truck had been stolen and claimed the shooting was accidental. The defense also said Orozco was remorseful.

But the case ended this week with Orozco receiving the maximum sentence under his plea deal: 40 years in prison.

His brother, Rolando Orozco, has also been charged with murder and is scheduled to appear in court on May 26 for a pre-trial conference.

A third suspect, Jody Duron, had his murder charge dismissed in September 2024 after prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to move forward.

For Casillas’ family, the sentence brings one chapter of the case to a close, but the pain remains.

  1. Spiks are trash anywhere they live, be it in Mexico or US. They can’t ever function where you have to be civilized and only know how to be a crook. Their mom must be proud since he and his brother have both been convicted of murder. Good job raising a couple of losers…..

  2. All Hispanic folks need to learn the bruthas hate you, THEY will gun you down in cold blood just as fast as they will gun down a Whitey.
