A quiet Los Angeles neighborhood was rocked by tragedy after two adults and two children were found dead inside a home in what police are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call in the North Hills neighborhood around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, according to local reports.
When first responders arrived, they found four people inside the home with gunshot wounds.
The victims included two adults and two minors.
Police have not yet released their names, ages or genders.
Authorities said they are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide and are not searching for any suspects.
Video from the scene showed a large emergency response, with police, firefighters and other first responders gathered outside the home. The area was blocked off with police tape as investigators worked late into the night.
Members of the mayor’s all-volunteer Crisis Response Team were also called to the scene. The group helps provide emotional support and trauma-informed care during devastating incidents.
Neighbors said they believed the victims were members of the same family.
One local resident, Undreal Turner, told ABC 7 that the tragedy was almost impossible to process.
“It’s just shocking to be in our neighborhood, something that drastic and devastating in the neighborhood,” Turner said. “It’s sad. Four people lost their lives today.”
Turner said the incident was also a heartbreaking reminder to check on people who may be struggling.
“We really need to hone in on our moms, and even dads, just to make sure, in the neighborhood, people that you know, that they’re OK,” Turner said. “Do they need any help? Do they need any assistance? Do they need any support?”
Other neighbors told KTLA 5 they were stunned by the deaths and had not noticed any obvious signs of domestic violence or problems at the home.
The LAPD has not released additional details about what may have led to the shooting.
For now, the North Hills community is left grieving after a horrific discovery inside a family home, where four lives ended in a tragedy police say appears to have been a murder-suicide.
