Logan Anderson, 18, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder after authorities say he shot and killed his sister, 21-year-old Leah Anderson, on Monday, June 8.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice and the Thornton Police Department announced the charge following the deadly shooting at a home on Upper Mad River Road in Thornton.
Authorities said police responded to the residence at around 8:20 a.m. after a 911 call was made. When officers arrived, they found Leah inside the home suffering from a wound to her head.
She was rushed to a hospital, but later died from her injuries.
Logan is accused of shooting Leah and causing her death, officials said.
Leah was a student at Plymouth State University, where she was majoring in Elementary Education and Youth Development.
Her death has devastated the campus community.
Plymouth State University President Donald L. Birx remembered Leah as a kind and caring young woman whose loss is being felt deeply by those who knew her.
“Those who knew Leah speak of a young woman whose kindness touched those around her,” Birx said in a statement. “Whether at Plymouth State or in the broader community, she was known for her caring nature, her warmth, and her ability to make others feel valued.”
Birx said more than one person described Leah as someone who could brighten another person’s day without even realizing it.
“Kindness came so naturally to her,” he said. “That generosity of spirit is how many will remember her.”
“Our thoughts are with Leah’s family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time,” Birx added. “Her loss is deeply felt across the Plymouth State community.”
Logan’s arraignment had been scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, but he waived the hearing, according to the Concord Monitor. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
He is currently being held without bail.
Authorities have not released a possible motive for the shooting.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice said the investigation remains ongoing.
