A devoted mother and United States Postal Service worker was killed while delivering mail in rural North Carolina, authorities said.

Brandi Reynolds was found dead Friday, June 26, at a location in Hays, North Carolina, after officers responded to a request for law enforcement assistance, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Reynolds worked as a rural mail carrier for USPS and was on the job delivering mail when she was killed, according to local reports.

The investigation led authorities to William Craig Durham, who has since been charged with kidnapping and murder, according to the state bureau and online court records.

Investigators alleged in a warrant obtained by the Charlotte Observer that Reynolds was restrained before she was killed. Durham is accused of moving her from one place to another without her consent, according to the warrant.

Officials have not said whether Reynolds knew Durham, and authorities have not released a possible motive.

Reynolds was remembered as a loving mother of two who often shared her love for her children online.

In a February Facebook post cited by the Charlotte Observer, Reynolds shared a photo with her children and wrote, “The reason I get up every morning. Love these babies. They are what makes life worth living.”

Her death has stunned the community and left loved ones grieving a woman who was simply doing her job when her life was taken.

The investigation remains ongoing.
