An Oklahoma pediatrician accused of killing her 4-year-old daughter and staging the child’s death to look like a swimming pool accident now claims another accused murderer has repeatedly attacked her and threatened to kill her behind bars.
Dr. Neha Gupta, 36, is being held without bond in Miami-Dade County, Florida, while awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge.
Gupta has filed an emergency motion asking a judge to order officials at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center to keep her separated from another inmate.
Her attorneys claim Gupta is terrified for her life after suffering multiple alleged attacks inside the jail.
The inmate named in the motion is Daisy Link, another woman facing a murder charge who previously made headlines after becoming pregnant while incarcerated despite reportedly never meeting the child’s father in person.
Link gave birth to a daughter in August 2024 and has allegedly been involved in attacks on several inmates while in custody.
According to Gupta’s emergency filing, the first alleged attack occurred on Jan. 26 while she was alone in her jail cell.
Link allegedly entered the cell and repeatedly punched Gupta in the face, leaving her bruised and permanently damaging her prescription glasses.
Prosecutors later charged Link in connection with the alleged assault, according to the motion.
Jail officials temporarily transferred Link to another housing unit, but she was reportedly moved back into Gupta’s unit in June.
The tension allegedly exploded again on July 17.
Gupta claims she was locked inside her cell when Link approached the door, began violently pounding on it and screamed, “I am going to kill you.”
The motion mentions another confrontation on July 20 but does not provide complete details about what allegedly occurred.
Four days later, Gupta claims one of Link’s associates attacked her. That incident is reportedly being investigated by the Department of Corrections.
Defense attorney Richard Cooper said he repeatedly attempted to persuade jail officials to move either Gupta or Link into a different housing unit, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Cooper is now asking the court to intervene and order the jail to separate the two women immediately.
He stressed that Gupta remains “in fear” for her safety as she awaits trial.
The judge had not yet ruled on the emergency request.
The dramatic jail allegations come as Gupta faces an even more shocking accusation involving the death of her young daughter.
Authorities allege Gupta killed the 4-year-old while they were staying at a rental home in the Miami area and then placed the girl’s body in a backyard swimming pool to make it appear that she had accidentally drowned.
Police initially responded to a 911 call about a drowning.
Gupta reportedly told investigators that she woke up during the early morning hours and realized her daughter was no longer in bed.
She claimed she found the child submerged in the pool and attempted to rescue her for approximately 10 minutes before calling 911.
Investigators said the evidence did not support her account.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the medical examiner found no water inside the girl’s lungs or stomach. That finding allegedly ruled out drowning as the cause of death.
The autopsy also reportedly documented injuries inside the child’s mouth that investigators said were consistent with asphyxiation caused by smothering.
Authorities concluded that the little girl was already dead before her body entered the swimming pool.
Investigators ultimately accused Gupta of killing her daughter and attempting to “conceal the killing” by staging the scene to resemble an accidental drowning.
Gupta has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
She remains behind bars without bond while awaiting trial — and is now asking a judge to protect her from a fellow inmate she says wants her dead.
