A Nebraska man is facing serious felony charges after authorities say he sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman in the early morning hours before his wedding.
Tyler Webber, 33, has been charged with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree false imprisonment in connection with the alleged May 30 incident.
According to a warrant affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the alleged assault that same day.
The woman told investigators she had been at a residence the night before helping wedding party members get things ready for Webber’s upcoming ceremony.
She said members of the wedding party had been drinking and that she ultimately decided to spend the night at the home.
At some point during the evening, the woman said she went upstairs to get a blanket.
As she headed back downstairs, she alleged that Webber followed her and grabbed her around the waist.
According to the affidavit, the woman told police she tried to pull away, but Webber allegedly pinned her against the stairs with her back pressed against them.
She then accused Webber of sexually assaulting her on a couch inside the residence.
Afterward, the woman said she told her husband and father what had happened. They encouraged her to seek medical care, and she went to a hospital where a sexual assault examination and evidence collection kit were completed.
The investigation continued for more than two months.
On Aug. 4, authorities received a DNA report from the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s forensic department.
According to investigators, the report indicated that Webber’s DNA was found on the woman.
Police said the finding conflicted with Webber’s previous claim that he had not had any sexual contact with her.
“This DNA report from the University of Nebraska Medical Center contradicts Webber’s claim he did not have any sexual contact with the victim,” the affidavit states.
Webber has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
The allegations against him have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
