Mom Arrested After Two Children are Found Covered in Blood Following Horrific Attack

A South Carolina mother is behind bars after authorities say her two young children were found alone and badly injured inside their home following an alleged overnight attack.

Taylor Gosnell, 35, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in Spartanburg County.

Deputies were called to a home in the 1400 block of Bud Arthur Bridge Road around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, after Gosnell’s former boyfriend requested a welfare check on the children, ages 3 and 6.

When deputies entered the home, they found both children unattended and suffering from serious injuries.

Prosecutors later said the children were covered in blood and had numerous lacerations. They were rushed to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators believe the attack happened during the night before deputies arrived.

According to authorities, Gosnell allegedly attacked the children with both a knife and a blunt object. Police have not publicly said what they believe led up to the alleged attack.

Inside the home, investigators also found significant damage, including a broken television and mirror.

Gosnell reportedly returned to the residence while deputies were still investigating.

During her bond hearing, prosecutors said she was speaking rapidly, appeared distressed and claimed she was experiencing visions.

Authorities requested an ambulance so she could be taken for a mental evaluation.

At one point, Gosnell allegedly attempted to flee, leading authorities to restrain her before she was transported for evaluation.

She was later booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

The children were placed into protective custody while receiving treatment.

Both are expected to survive, but prosecutors described their injuries as extremely serious.

During the bond hearing, authorities said some of the children’s cuts were so deep that they reached the bone.

Prosecutors also said the 6-year-old boy suffered such severe injuries that he could potentially face the amputation of fingers or even an arm.

A judge denied Gosnell bond on Sunday. Any future bond decision will have to be made by a circuit court judge.

Published reports have differed over whether Gosnell had any previous criminal history. One report said prosecutors stated she had no prior record, while another cited local reporting indicating she may have already been facing earlier child-related charges.

Because of that discrepancy, the status of any previous case remains unclear.

Gosnell’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12, according to public court records.

If convicted on both attempted murder charges, she could face a combined maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.

The investigation remains ongoing.
