A 76-year-old Maryland woman has died after police say she and her husband were attacked and robbed while walking away from one of their favorite Baltimore restaurants.
Claudia Bismark and her 60-year-old husband, Wade Wilson, had just left Vikki’s Fells Point Deli inside Broadway Market on Tuesday morning when they were allegedly followed and attacked on Fleet Street.
Police say Montray McCray, 32, assaulted both victims, knocked them to the ground and stole a wallet before running away. Bismark and her husband were both taken to a hospital for treatment.
Bismark died from her injuries two days later.
McCray was arrested Thursday and initially charged with assault, robbery and reckless endangerment. Baltimore police said upgraded charges were pending following Bismark’s death.
New details from charging documents reportedly indicate the attack may not have been random.
According to CBS Baltimore, investigators allege McCray watched the couple inside Broadway Market before following them outside. Surveillance footage reportedly showed him lingering after apparently noticing the couple handling money.
Vikki Powers, the owner of the deli, said she reviewed surveillance video from inside the market and believed the suspect watched the couple before following them out.
The longtime couple then walked hand in hand down Fleet Street.
Video from a nearby business reportedly captured the moment they were shoved to the ground. Authorities allege the attacker took Wilson’s wallet and struck Bismark as she tried to get back up.
Charging documents say approximately $150 was taken during the robbery. Wilson suffered facial injuries and a concussion, according to investigators.
Bismark never recovered from her injuries.
Her death has devastated friends and neighbors in Fells Point, where she was well known and deeply involved in the community.
Dozens of people gathered for a candlelight vigil this week to remember Bismark and support her husband.
Friend Keya Little described her as generous, caring and funny, while Kate Norris called Bismark one of her closest friends and said both Bismark and Wilson were “pillars” of the neighborhood.
Bismark was also known locally as an artist, and friends said she had spent years building connections throughout the Fells Point community.
Police arrested McCray on Oct. 1 and transported him to Baltimore’s Central Booking Intake Facility.
At the time of his arrest, the charges included assault, robbery and reckless endangerment. Because Bismark later died, detectives are now treating the case as a homicide investigation and prosecutors could seek more serious charges.
The case remains active.

“ Montray” of course he is!!!
Now, if Montray had been white, and these two victims, black, white democrat liberals, and the media would be going absolutely insane.
And rioting and looting would be in progress
