An investigation is underway after a body was reportedly discovered in a freezer with a bloody knife nearby.
According to KYW-TV, the body was found on Friday, Dec. 23, at a home on the 1200 block of Snyder Avenue. Family members reportedly went to the home to check up on other relatives when they made the discovery and called police.
Police told WCAU-TV there was a large amount of blood, with a trail leading to the basement stairs, where investigators found more blood around an icebox along with a bloody knife.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small reportedly said, “Officers opened the freezer box and that’s when they discovered a body facedown.”
Small told WCAU that it’s possible the victim had been stabbed to death.
Neighbors told WCAU that they saw a man wielding a knife in the neighborhood. Police are reportedly aware of those reports and are working to see if they are related.
Investigators have not yet identified the body found in the freezer, but they reportedly learned that a father and son who haven’t been heard from recently are known to frequent the home. There was allegedly an SUV parked outside the residence, and investigators believe it belonged to one of them.
There were reportedly no signs of forced entry into the home, and investigators are looking into how long the body had been in the freezer before the discovery.
