The parents of a three-year-old and a five-year-old were arrested at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida for child neglect after they drank too much.
Robert and Janine Pecha, who were visiting from Staten Island, New York, were arrested for third-degree felony child neglect.
Robert was also charged with misdemeanor domestic violence after he hit his wife in the face.
The family was staying at Disney’s Polynesian Resort when the incident occurred.
Per the arrest report, which was obtained by Walt Disney World News Today, the parents were highly intoxicated and passed out on their bed. It is unclear who called the police, but upon arrival, they found several empty alcohol containers in the bathroom.
“I tapped and shook both of their legs and called out for them to wake up. Attempts were initially unsuccessful; however, with repeated attempts, both subjects began to wake up. It was evident that both Robert and Janine were heavily intoxicated. They had slow responses to verbal questions, slurred speech, and had difficulty walking or standing,” the arresting police officer wrote in the arrest report.
“Janine, at one point, nearly fell over in the bathroom due to her intoxication. Robert and Janine were asked what was going on, and they both replied nothing. I asked how much alcohol they each had consumed. Robert stated one drink, and Janine was adamant that she had consumed no alcohol. They were unaware of how intoxicated they were,” the report continued.
When speaking to officers, the couple claimed they did not fight. However, the children told police that their parents were drinking all day and later got into an argument over Robert allegedly not spending enough time with the family. According to the report, one of the children claimed their father hit their mother “several times in the face with an open hand.”
The children repeatedly said, “No, Daddy,” the report said.
According to the arrest report, which was released several weeks after the parents were taken into custody, Mr. and Mrs. Pecha have been married for 12 years and there is no known history of domestic violence.
Florida Department of Children and Families have taken custody of their 5-year-old and 3-year-old as there were no other family or friends nearby, per the arrest report.
Meanwhile, Janine and Robert were taken to the hospital to treat their intoxication and after they were both taken to jail.
