A 19-year-old Texas man is facing charges in the deaths of a pregnant woman, her unborn child and her young son after he crashed into them at high speed, officials told news outlets. It was after 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, and Rocio Castejon, 26, was driving on Amarillo’s northwest side with her 6-year-old son in the car, police told KAMR.
She was going through a stop sign but quickly hit the breaks again because, police say, she spotted a Chevrolet Camaro speeding toward the intersection, the station reported. Castejon saw danger coming and tried to stay out of its way, but it wasn’t enough, according to investigators.
The driver, 19-year-old Abdurahman Garang Hussein, swerved from one lane to the next just before impact, police told KVII. He was going more than 100 mph when the Camaro slammed into the driver side of Castejon’s car, police told the outlet. Castejon, her son and unborn child were all killed, police said
Investigators say speed and alcohol contributed to the crash, KFDA reported. An investigation is underway and autopsies have been ordered, officials told the station. Hussein was arrested and jailed on three charges of manslaughter, jail records show. His total bond is $300,000.
