A Houston woman was fatally struck by a car outside the parking lot of a nightclub in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 18.
Witnesses at the scene at 2300 San Jacinto St. alleged to police that a driver, later identified as Sanden James George in a statement by the Houston Police Department, had gotten into a “physical altercation” with another woman and appeared to attempt to “intentionally strike” her with the vehicle, a spokesperson for the HPD stated.
Instead, George, 35, allegedly struck and killed an innocent bystander, say police.
The HPD said in the statement that George has been charged with murder and assault on a family member.
Police initially responded to the scene at 3 a.m. after a reported auto-pedestrian crash at an intersection near the nightclub address.
“An initial investigation, evidence from the scene, and witness statements determined a male suspect got into a physical altercation with a woman, 24, who was suppsoed to be his girlfriend before attempting to intentionally strike her with his vehicle,” HPD’s statement read. The unidentified 24-year-old woman was not seriously injured, per police.
“The suspect’s vehicle struck another woman and he fled on foot,” the HPD statement alleged.
The victim was a 41-year-old woman. George was treated at a local hospital before being taken into police custody, the statement said.
The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
She was pronounced dead by the Houston Fire Department on the scene, a spokesperson for the HPD said in the statement.
