A Florida hairstylist was brutally murdered in a parking garage ambush that has left a community reeling and her loved ones in shock.
Hailey Hosford, 27, had just arrived at her friend Ian Bryant’s luxury apartment complex, The Retreat at Sawgrass Village in Sunrise, when she was suddenly attacked in the early hours of May 28.
According to police, Hosford had stepped out of Bryant’s car around 1:30 a.m. and noticed a man walking toward her. Sensing danger, she quickly tried to get back inside the vehicle—but it was too late. Authorities say the man, identified as 21-year-old Jackson Sagesse, forced the car door open and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and throat.
The arrest report reveals that when Bryant returned to the garage, he was met by a horrifying scene—and was also stabbed in the throat during a violent scuffle with Sagesse. Despite his injuries, Bryant managed to escape and call for help.
While Bryant fled, Sagesse allegedly tried to drive the car with Hosford still inside, unresponsive on the backseat floor. After failing to operate the vehicle, he ran off on foot.
An employee at the complex recognized Sagesse as a nearby resident. Officers later found him at home with a knife in his pocket believed to match one found in the vehicle. When questioned, Sagesse reportedly confessed: “I just killed someone and walked away.”
Hosford was pronounced dead at the scene. Bryant was rushed to the hospital and is now recovering.
Sagesse has been charged with premeditated murder and attempted murder. He remains in custody without bond at the Broward County Jail. No attorney has been publicly listed for him.
Back in Fort Lauderdale, the community is grieving the loss of Hosford, a rising star in the local beauty scene and owner of the Hailey Janes Beauty Boutique.
“She was a force to be reckoned with,” her best friend Aubrey Rosebrock said in a tearful interview.
Bryant, still recovering from his wounds, shared how the two had only stopped by his apartment briefly that night. “I know she was a fighter,” he said. “She was scared, but I believe she fought. I want the world to know her name and who she was. There’s evil, and there’s good—and we lost the good.”
Her funeral, set for June 11, is expected to draw people from around the globe. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the costs of her Celebration of Life. Any remaining funds will go toward launching the Hailey Jane Beauty Foundation, a scholarship for aspiring beauty professionals.
“She lit up the world with her passion and artistry from the age of 16,” wrote fundraiser organizer Heather Hadwen. “This foundation will carry that light forward.”
A separate GoFundMe has also been created to support Ian Bryant’s medical recovery.
