A Maryland man could spend the rest of his life in prison after gunning down a fellow bus passenger over a petty dispute.

A Baltimore jury found 61-year-old James Richburg guilty of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in the killing of 30-year-old William Womack. Prosecutors say the deadly shooting happened because Womack refused to apologize after accidentally bumping into Richburg.

The confrontation unfolded on Nov. 30, 2024, aboard an MTA bus in downtown Baltimore. According to investigators, Womack brushed against Richburg as he was getting off the bus, but when no “excuse me” came, tempers flared. Womack reboarded moments later, and witnesses say Richburg pulled out a gun and fired from near-point-blank range into Womack’s chest.

Security footage showed the bump happened as Womack bent down to pick up a dropped bottle. Prosecutors told jurors that before pulling the trigger, Richburg even threatened, “I’m not going to let you live.”

Womack collapsed on the bus and later died at a local hospital. Richburg fled on foot but was arrested days later while riding another MTA bus. Police say numerous witnesses identified him as the shooter.

In court, Richburg’s attorney argued he acted in self-defense, claiming Womack was “haranguing” him and had committed “battery” by bumping into him. Prosecutors countered that Womack was unarmed and posed no threat.

Richburg, who has prior felony convictions for robbery and firearm possession, will be sentenced on Nov. 10.

  1. Usual black POS. This is why blacks outnumber others in prison, because they are violent not because they are treated unfairly as they always whine about.

  2. Under Harvard University’s DEI goals, the University has offered Richburg a free ride in their law school. Passing grades and attendance not required.
