A Mississippi man with a violent past is back behind bars after authorities say he brutally attacked a truck stop clerk over the price of gas — even trying to gouge the worker’s eyes out before pulling a gun.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, 40-year-old Charlie Terrell Jones, stormed into the 35/55 truck stop on Highway 35 in Vaiden just after noon on Monday. He allegedly argued with the clerk about gas prices, then launched into a savage beating. The clerk told investigators Jones hit him repeatedly, tried to gouge out his eyes, and struck him on the back of the head.
Deputies say Jones then escalated the assault, retrieving a gun from his vehicle and demanding cash from the register. The terrified clerk handed over the money. When first responders arrived, they found the victim badly beaten and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he received stitches and treatment for his injuries.
Investigators quickly identified Jones, a man known for his “violent criminal background.” He had only been out on parole for seven months after serving more than 20 years for crimes including sexual battery and kidnapping.
Law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, tracked Jones down as he headed south on Highway 35. A roadblock was set up near Kosciusko, where deputies say Jones and a driver were forced to stop. He was arrested without further incident and booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility.
In addition to armed robbery, officials say Jones will face new charges including possession of a weapon by a felon and failure to register as a sex offender.
“I am grateful to the Lord that this incident was resolved without any further violence or injury,” Sheriff Clint Walker said in a statement. “Jones is a threat to society, and I am glad that he has been removed from our streets.”

People like this need to be only in a secure lock down prison, no visitors or contact, or executed if the crimes they committed call for that punishment. They should never, under any circumstance be allowed back on the streets. Life without parole in a maximum security prison.
Death penalty is the only answer. He’ll get out and do it agan! We need to start getting rid of these violent criminals and clean out our prisons!
