Man Killed His Elderly Grandmother Because She ‘Criticized’ Him

A Kansas man is accused of brutally killing his own grandmother after a heated fight over laundry took a horrifying turn.

According to police, 24-year-old Isaiah Langkiet allegedly stabbed his 65-year-old grandmother, Elvera Langkiet, multiple times in the neck with a kitchen knife after she made comments about the way he washed his clothes.

Court records show Langkiet is facing charges of first-degree attempted murder, domestic battery, and violating a protection order. More charges may be added now that Elvera has died from her injuries.

Police say the incident unfolded on August 30 at the family’s home in Wichita. Langkiet reportedly called 911 himself and told the dispatcher, “I stabbed my grandmother.” When officers arrived, they found him on the back porch and took him into custody. Inside, they discovered Elvera bleeding heavily from her neck and upper torso.

As paramedics rushed her to the hospital, Elvera identified her grandson as the attacker. “He has demons,” she reportedly told medics, adding that something was seriously wrong with him. She also claimed he made statements about wanting to “go back to jail.”

Doctors described the stab wounds — two to the neck and one to the throat, each about four inches deep — as “near fatal.” Elvera initially survived, but after refusing additional medical treatment, she died on September 3. An autopsy confirmed she died from complications of her stab wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.

During questioning, Langkiet admitted he snapped during an argument that morning over his grandmother criticizing his laundry. He said he slapped her in the face, grabbed a kitchen knife with an eight-inch blade, and stabbed her twice in the neck. When she fell to the floor, he stabbed her again, then walked away without helping her. Asked why, he allegedly told police he was “tired” of her “b—ing at him.”

The victim’s daughter later told investigators her mother described the attack in even harsher terms: “That motherf—er tried to kill me.”

Langkiet is being held in Sedgwick County Jail on $500,000 bond. A judge has ordered him to undergo a competency evaluation before the case moves forward.
