A young mom of four was tragically killed by her “obsessed” ex-boyfriend, who kidnapped her and their baby daughter before being shot and killed by police, authorities say.
Savannah Kulla, 29, was found dead in a shopping center parking lot in Brampton, Ontario on Tuesday afternoon.
Her ex, 39-year-old Anthony Deschepper, allegedly left her body there after abducting Savannah and their 1-year-old daughter. Police quickly issued an Amber Alert for the little girl, who was later found safe with family members in Niagara Falls. According to the family, Deschepper dropped the baby off before fleeing the scene.
A manhunt soon followed, and early Wednesday morning, Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit tracked Deschepper to a gas station in Niagara Falls. After an “interaction” with police went wrong, officers shot and killed him. Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene but found no evidence Deschepper fired it.
An unidentified woman driving Deschepper at the time was also arrested, though details about her connection to him remain unclear.
Savannah’s mother, Karen, told local media that Deschepper had become “crazy” in recent weeks as Savannah, who also had three sons from a previous relationship, was trying to leave him. “He was so in love with her, that’s what blows my mind. Like crazy in love… to the point of obsession. She kept telling me she had to get away,” Karen shared.
Savannah’s three young sons, ages 4, 5, and 6, are now in their father’s care.
A close friend of Savannah’s started a GoFundMe to help support the futures of all four children. The friend wrote, “She loved her babies with all her heart. Her world revolved around them, and she was so proud of each of them.”
A post-mortem exam for Deschepper is scheduled for Thursday as the investigation continues.
