A 20-year-old woman in New Jersey has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her 2-year-old brother in the chest over the weekend in a shocking family attack.

Marlene Rodriguez faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and child endangerment, following the incident at a home in Brick Township, about 65 miles south of Manhattan.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a 911 call reporting a medical emergency around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Officers found the toddler suffering from a stab wound and emergency responders rushed him to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Authorities say his injuries were severe but not life-threatening, and he was listed in stable condition as of Sunday morning.

An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick Township Police, and the county sheriff’s crime scene team determined that Rodriguez was responsible for the attack. She was taken into custody at Brick Township Police Headquarters and is now being held at Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer praised the collaborative efforts of local law enforcement in the investigation.

Rodriguez is also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Authorities have not released any details regarding a possible motive, and her first court appearance has not yet been scheduled.

This tragic incident has left the community shaken, highlighting how quickly domestic situations can turn violent even within a family home.
