A 39-year-old Wisconsin man is facing life in prison after fatally shooting a 26-year-old store cashier just weeks after the victim welcomed his first child—over a dispute about how his pizza was made.
Charles J. Leggett was found guilty Wednesday by a Milwaukee County jury of first-degree intentional murder with a dangerous weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The jury deliberated for less than 30 minutes before convicting him on both charges. His sentencing is scheduled for December 17.
The tragic shooting happened on October 19, 2024, at Action Food and Liquor on North Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a gunshot and found Jamil I. Owies lying behind the counter with a gunshot wound to his chest. Despite the efforts of first responders, Owies was pronounced dead at the scene.
An employee working in the store that morning told police that Leggett had placed a pizza order, then returned to the counter and began arguing with Owies. Security footage later confirmed the confrontation. According to police, the video shows Leggett visibly upset, reaching into his pocket, and shooting Owies at close range before fleeing the store.
Authorities later arrested Leggett, and during questioning, he reportedly admitted to the shooting. He told police the incident started because the cashier was preparing his pizza without gloves. “The Defendant informed Owies it was unsanitary, then Owies became loud with the Defendant and said he would do something to the Defendant,” the affidavit states. Leggett admitted, “I shot him,” then ran from the store and later discarded his clothes.

I say probation, no jail time.
Disgusting POS. He needs to be killed as there is no point of wasting jail for this garbage.
