A Minnesota man has been arrested after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend during a shocking early-morning shooting that took place while several children were inside the home, authorities say.
According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, 45-year-old Randy Thomas Zimmerman is accused of fatally shooting 50-year-old Justin Reinhardt and his 32-year-old girlfriend, whose name has not yet been released, in the small town of Hanska, Minnesota.
A young boy reportedly called 911 around 4:22 a.m. Sunday, telling dispatchers that his mother’s ex-boyfriend had broken into the house and shot her. When officers arrived, several children had already fled and were hiding in the backyard, the Mankato Free Press reported. It’s unclear whose children were present at the time or where they were taken after the incident.
Zimmerman fled the scene and was later captured more than 300 miles away in Letts, Iowa. According to CBS News, deputies ended a high-speed chase by ramming his vehicle. Zimmerman allegedly fired a long gun at law enforcement officers during the pursuit but missed.
He was taken into custody late Sunday and is now being held in the Louisa County Jail in Iowa on felony murder warrants.
Hanska, a close-knit town of just 165 residents about two hours southwest of Minneapolis, has been left reeling by the tragedy. Neighbors described Reinhardt as kind and always willing to lend a hand.
Neighbor Sara Sandtorf told the Free Press that her home security camera recorded a vehicle parking near Reinhardt’s house shortly after 4 a.m.—something she found unusual for their quiet street. “No one’s ever driving on this road,” she said.
Another neighbor, Dick Smith, said Reinhardt’s girlfriend had recently moved in with him.
Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

He’s a self-entitled, middle aged white guy with a shaved head, obligatory goatee, sunglasses & ball cap driving his black pickup with black tinted windows recklessly down the interstate, tailgating, cutting people off, flipping them the bird as he passes them going 85 mph….. AND NO COPS TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE.
