The parents of a New Jersey teen who allegedly killed two classmates in a hit-and-run reportedly raised concerns about their son with police in the weeks before the tragedy, according to audio obtained by NJ.com.
Jeffrey and Judith Battiloro contacted the Garwood Police Department multiple times in August about their 17-year-old son, Vincent. The couple, who are divorced, reportedly made four calls detailing worries about his behavior.
In one call on August 9, Jeffrey asked an officer to visit the home to discuss “juvenile issues” involving his son. Later, on August 24, he told police that Vincent had sprayed him in the face with mace and taken his car.
Judith also reached out to authorities. On August 26, she said she could not reach Vincent by phone and claimed her ex-husband had disconnected his service and kicked him out of the house. Police reportedly intervened and brought Vincent back to her home after he arrived “angry” over the situation.
A few days later, on August 30, Jeffrey again called police, describing another “juvenile issue” in which Vincent was allegedly becoming “physical.”
Authorities say the warning signs escalated in the weeks that followed. On October 3, Vincent allegedly posted a livestream on YouTube claiming a classmate was falsely accusing him of legal wrongdoing involving “child porn” and saying he wanted “vengeance.” YouTube later removed his account.
The deadly incident occurred on September 29, when Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas, both 17, were riding an e-bike around 5:30 p.m. and were allegedly struck by a 2021 black Jeep with tinted windows. Police say the driver fled the scene. Both girls were taken to hospitals, where they later died.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a 17-year-old boy with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the crash. Relatives and neighbors told NJ.com that Maria had reportedly been stalked by Vincent for months prior, and her mother had contacted police before the fatal incident.
