A 37-year-old Missouri man is accused of brutally killing his own grandmother inside her St. Louis-area home — then stabbing her two dogs — after spending the night at the residence, authorities say.

Ronald Allred III has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and two misdemeanor counts of animal abuse. He was arraigned in court Tuesday, according to records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Police with the St. Louis County Police Department were called to a home on the 8500 block of Jenny Drive on Sunday after a woman dialed 911 and reported finding her 81-year-old mother, Fannie Allred, unresponsive.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim was discovered face down on the floor of her own home, surrounded by blood. She had suffered six stab wounds to her head, neck, and chest.

Two French bulldogs inside the home were also stabbed during the attack. Police said the dogs survived and were expected to recover.

Investigators quickly learned that Ronald Allred III had stayed at his grandmother’s house the night before the killing and had been seen at the residence earlier that morning. By the time officers arrived, however, he was gone.

An alert was issued for Allred and his pickup truck. Local Fox affiliate KTVI reported that he was later spotted at Calvary Cemetery, about 12 minutes from the crime scene. When an officer approached his vehicle, Allred allegedly reached toward his feet, prompting the officer to fire a shot. The bullet struck the officer’s patrol car, and Allred sped away.

Later that same day, police located Allred again — this time at a gas station. Authorities say he barricaded himself inside his truck, triggering a standoff before officers were finally able to take him into custody. He was also charged with resisting arrest.

After being read his Miranda rights, Allred allegedly confessed to stabbing his grandmother, according to authorities. A motive for the killing has not been publicly disclosed.

As the investigation continues, loved ones are remembering Fannie Allred as the heart of her family and a survivor who had already overcome so much.

The 81-year-old had recently beaten stage 2 colon cancer, according to St. Louis NBC affiliate KSDK.

“She was like the matriarch of the family,” her son, Ronald Allred Jr., said. “She’d lived in that neighborhood more than 20 years. Everybody knew her. Everybody looked out for her.”

Another family member, Marvin Allred, described her as endlessly kind and selfless.

“She was one of the most beautiful souls you’d ever come in contact with,” he said. “There was nothing she wouldn’t do for you. Unfortunately, with her being so open-hearted, it cost her her life.”

The case remains under investigation as prosecutors move forward with the charges.

  1. Anybody that kills family should get the death penalty! It’s time we clean out our prisons. There is no reason why this murderer should get prison time on the tax payers.

  2. 1. Ronnie looks like his mother was white.
    2. Animal cruelty needs to be a felony. Wake up Missouri!
    3. The police officer needs some more time on the firing range.
    4. Ronnie’s bush beard doesn’t do much for his manhood. He’s still a wuss who fled like a wussy.
