The hospital that employed the ex-husband of slain Ohio mother Monique Tepe is speaking out following his arrest in the shocking double homicide that left a young family destroyed.

Michael David McKee, 39, was arrested over the weekend and is now facing two counts of aggravated murder in connection with the killings of Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, 37. The couple was found dead inside their Columbus, Ohio, home late last month.

McKee, a vascular surgeon, was employed at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, at the time of the killings.

In a statement released Monday, Jan. 13, the hospital confirmed McKee’s employment and said it is cooperating with investigators. “OSF is cooperating with authorities who will provide any further information,” the medical center said, directing additional questions to law enforcement.

Court records show McKee was briefly married to Monique in 2015 before she filed for divorce in 2017. Years later, Monique met Spencer online, and the two married in 2020.

On the morning of Dec. 30, Columbus police conducted a welfare check at the couple’s home after Spencer’s coworkers raised concerns when he failed to show up for work. Officers discovered both Monique and Spencer had been fatally shot.

Their two young children, ages 4 and 1, were found alive inside the home. Police believe the children were alone in the residence for several hours with the bodies. Authorities said the children were physically unharmed.

McKee was initially arrested on murder charges, which were later upgraded to two counts of aggravated murder. He appeared in an Illinois court on Monday, where he waived his right to an extradition hearing. His attorney has said McKee intends to plead not guilty.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the killings.
