An Oklahoma teenager has been arrested and charged in the killing of his adoptive mother, a case prosecutors say involved planning and repeated threats leading up to her death.

Jordan Cole Weems, 16, was arrested Friday, Jan. 30, and charged as an adult with first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse, and unauthorized removal of a dead body, according to court records. Authorities allege he admitted to killing his adoptive mother, Spring Weems, 49, with a hammer he found in the family’s garage and then placing her body inside a garbage can.

The investigation began earlier in the week when the father of one of Spring’s biological children reported her missing to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Although the couple had divorced years ago, they continued to share custody of their minor children.

The following day, Wednesday, Jan. 28, authorities discovered Spring’s body inside a trash bin that had been rolled to the curb outside the family’s home. Jordan was later taken into custody.

According to an affidavit cited by KOCO News 5, agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation interviewed one of Spring’s adopted sons, who said he and Jordan had recently gotten into serious trouble for sneaking out at night and running from police.

As punishment, the boys were reportedly required to write apology letters. Investigators say Jordan was also stripped of his regular clothing and bedding and made to wear an orange jumpsuit to show him what “life as a prisoner” might be like if he continued misbehaving. He was also allegedly served what were described as “prison-style” meals, such as ham and beans or chicken and beans.

Investigators allege that after the punishment, Jordan made several threats to kill his mother.

After Spring disappeared, the father of one of her biological children became alarmed and spoke with one of the adopted children, who was reportedly acting fearful and appeared to know more than he was saying. That child allegedly told him that Jordan had killed Spring with a hammer and that her body was inside a trash can at the curb.

Following Jordan’s arrest, the Logan County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion requesting that he be denied bond. Prosecutors argued the killing was not a spontaneous act but one that involved planning and prior threats.

“This was not a crime of passion or an instantaneous decision,” prosecutors wrote in court filings. “Rather, the defendant threatened to kill his mother leading up to the crime.”

According to the documents, Jordan allegedly retrieved a hammer and waited in a hallway during the night for his mother to come out of the kitchen. When she did, prosecutors allege, he attacked her.

Although Jordan has been charged as an adult, prosecutors noted in court filings that he may be better housed in a juvenile detention facility rather than an adult jail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 24 as the case continues to move through the legal system.

  2. Since his mom tried to teach him what life will be like in prison, he should be prepared. This is the issue sometimes, when you adopt kids you often get damaged goods.

    1. Damaged Goods for sure!!!
It happens far too often…. and most likely where the slogan, “no good deed goes unpunished” came from.
