A North Carolina courtroom turned chaotic when a grieving father allegedly attacked the man accused of murdering his teenage son — and the entire confrontation was caught on camera.
Shaheem Snype, 47, was arrested Thursday after authorities say he lunged at 21-year-old Marion McKnight inside the Mecklenburg County Courthouse in Charlotte. McKnight is currently out on bond while facing a murder charge in the shooting death of Snype’s 16-year-old son, Jamariyae Dixon.
Video circulating online shows Snype charging at McKnight in a courthouse hallway, throwing a flurry of punches and kicks before a deputy deployed a Taser to stop him. McKnight was later transported to a hospital following the altercation.
Snype was charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. He was released just hours later after posting a $1,000 bond, according to local reports.
Family members say the confrontation happened when Snype unexpectedly came face to face with McKnight, who had been free on a $100,000 bond — a decision that has angered Dixon’s loved ones.
“He did what he had to do as a father,” Dixon’s aunt, Susan Sherrill, told reporters. “Any father would’ve done the same thing. We’re still grieving. This is a wound that will never ever close because my nephew was 16 years old, and he should still be here with us.”
The deadly case dates back to May 23, 2025, when police responded to a shooting on Stroud Park Court. Officers found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two were in life-threatening condition. Dixon died two days later at Atrium Health.
Investigators later identified McKnight as a suspect. He was questioned by detectives and charged with murder in connection with Dixon’s death. In November 2025, he was released on bond and has since been living at his mother’s home under electronic monitoring.
McKnight returned to court Thursday as prosecutors sought to revoke his bond in a motion filed February 18.
Dixon’s mother, Lynnette Dixon, said she was not present for the courthouse confrontation but later watched the video.
“My face smiled,” she said. “I smiled. That was the first time I had a real smile since my son been gone.”
