A deadly road rage encounter in Florida has ended in murder charges after a FedEx driver was gunned down in what police say was a confrontation that never should have escalated.
Authorities arrested 28-year-old Tyler Vidro in connection with the April 16 shooting death of Nathaniel Padgett in Riviera Beach. What started as a traffic dispute quickly spiraled into something far more serious—and ultimately fatal.
According to an arrest affidavit, Padgett’s girlfriend frantically called 911 after he was shot, initially reporting a gunshot wound to his leg. But when officers arrived, they found Padgett had been hit multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
In a shocking twist, Vidro himself contacted police after the shooting, claiming he fired his weapon because he feared for his life. But his own words raised eyebrows.
“I didn’t think to call you guys, but the lawyer told me to,” he allegedly told investigators.
Padgett’s girlfriend painted a very different picture of what happened. She told police the two were riding in a delivery truck when Vidro pulled up beside them, allegedly trying to provoke a confrontation by gesturing and shrugging.
The situation didn’t end there.
When the pair arrived at a FedEx facility so Padgett could switch vehicles, they realized Vidro had followed them onto the property—something police say he had no legal reason to do.
Investigators believe Vidro was waiting.
Surveillance audio reportedly captured him accusing Padgett, saying, “you hit my car.” But video evidence appears to show Padgett attempting to avoid any confrontation. Instead of engaging, he tried to leave—first on foot, then in his vehicle.
Police say Vidro pursued him anyway.
At one point, Padgett grabbed a concrete block roughly the size of a bowling ball. However, authorities say there’s no evidence he used it in a threatening way. Moments later, gunshots rang out.
Investigators allege Vidro escalated the situation at every step—initiating the dispute, following Padgett to his workplace, and continuing the pursuit even as Padgett tried to disengage.
Vidro is now facing serious charges, including premeditated murder and stalking. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea.
Meanwhile, Padgett’s loved ones are left grieving. A GoFundMe created to help with funeral expenses has already raised more than $7,000 as the community reels from the tragic loss.
