Jaslyn Raquelle Crawford (St. Ann Police Department)

A terrifying case out of Missouri has left a young child in critical condition after police say she was exposed to deadly drugs in a way no one expected.

Authorities in Charlack responded to a 911 call on April 19 after a 7-year-old girl suffered a medical emergency at a home on Olden Avenue. What they discovered next stunned even seasoned investigators.

According to the St. Ann Police Department, the child had overdosed on fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Police say the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Investigators believe the drugs were ingested through a slushie.

According to reports, a woman identified as Jaslyn Raquelle Crawford was allegedly using drugs inside the bathroom of the girl’s mother’s home when the child entered. Authorities suspect the substances somehow made their way into the girl’s drink.

When Crawford was taken into custody, police say they found drugs in her bra and purse.

Officials say it was the child’s mother who called 911.

“This is one of those tragic cases that you feel like shouldn’t happen,” a police official said, emphasizing just how dangerous even tiny amounts of these substances can be.

Prosecutors echoed that warning, noting that even minimal exposure to fentanyl can be life-threatening for a child.

Crawford has since been charged by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with multiple felony counts, including endangering the welfare of a child resulting in serious physical injury.

Her bond has been set at $250,000 cash only.

She is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail as the investigation continues.
