A routine ride home turned into a devastating tragedy after a high-speed police chase ended in a deadly crash that killed two innocent people.
Authorities say Quadramel Williams, 37, is facing a long list of charges—including murder, DUI, fleeing police, and reckless driving—after allegedly crashing into a Lyft vehicle during a police pursuit in Savannah on April 23.
Police say the chaos began when officers attempted to pull Williams over. Instead of stopping, he reportedly sped off in a Chevy Trailblazer, blew through a red light, and slammed into a car being driven by Lyft driver Habibullah Azizi.
Inside that vehicle was 19-year-old passenger Trejon Anthony, who was simply trying to get home from work.
The impact was catastrophic.
Both Azizi and Anthony were ejected from the vehicle and killed, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
Anthony’s family says he was an innocent victim caught in the wrong place at the worst possible time. “He was on his way home from work,” loved ones shared, describing the loss as unimaginable.
Azizi’s story has also left many heartbroken.
An Afghan immigrant who came to the U.S. for a better life, Azizi was the sole provider for his family back home. Friends say his elderly, ill mother became worried when she couldn’t reach him and began calling around—only to be told to check local hospitals.
By then, the worst had already happened.
“Across the street, he was driving for Lyft,” a friend said. “And unfortunately, the chase scene hit him. Both are no more with us.”
Those close to Azizi say he worked tirelessly to support his family overseas, including his mother and unemployed brother in Afghanistan. He had dreamed of changing their lives for the better—and was doing everything he could to make that happen.
In a heartbreaking detail, his family shared that one of his greatest wishes was to never witness his mother’s passing. Now, they say, she is left to endure the pain of losing her son instead.
The crash has reignited concerns about the dangers of high-speed police pursuits and the innocent lives that can be caught in the crossfire.
