A Brazilian wedding celebration turned into a horrifying tragedy after a bride was allegedly murdered by her new husband just hours after the couple said “I do.”
According to Brazilian media reports, 34-year-old Nájylla Duenas Nascimento was shot and killed during her own wedding reception on May 9 after a violent fight reportedly broke out between her and her husband, Daniel Barbosa Marinho.
Authorities say Marinho, 55, has worked as a member of the Municipal Guard since 1998.
Investigators claim tensions between the newlyweds escalated quickly during the celebration and eventually turned physical.
Police allege Marinho then pulled out his service weapon and shot Nascimento.
Reports say the initial gunshots were not immediately fatal.
But according to investigators, the horrifying situation became even worse when Marinho allegedly returned later and shot her again.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the bride was tragically pronounced dead during what should have been one of the happiest nights of her life.
Nascimento was reportedly the mother of three children from a previous relationship.
Witnesses told local media that family members managed to quickly remove all of the children from the residence before the deadly violence unfolded further.
Authorities say Marinho later contacted the Municipal Guard himself to report the shooting.
He was subsequently detained on suspicion of femicide and placed into pretrial detention while investigators continue building the case.
During the investigation, police reportedly recovered shell casings, ammunition, projectiles, and the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.
In a statement following the tragedy, the Municipal Guard of Campinas said it “deeply regrets the incident” and confirmed it is cooperating fully with investigators.
Officials also stressed their commitment to combating violence in all forms as the shocking case continues to unfold.
