A Florida man who described himself as a life coach and “intuitive healer” is accused of repeatedly stabbing his elderly mother to death — just hours after posting a video urging people to forgive those who have hurt them.
Alexander Harrington, 50, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 77-year-old mother, identified by local media as Susan Baratto.
The deadly incident unfolded Friday at the home the two shared in Delray Beach, Florida.
According to an arrest affidavit, Harrington called authorities around 2 p.m. and allegedly told them he had killed his mother.
Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies rushed to the home and found Harrington standing outside.
Inside, deputies discovered Baratto in the living room covered in blood and suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A knife was found on the floor next to her body, authorities said.
Harrington also had a cut on his left arm. While paramedics were treating him, they reportedly asked what had happened.
“I killed my mom,” Harrington allegedly replied.
Detectives later questioned Harrington after reading him his Miranda rights. According to investigators, he admitted to stabbing his mother and then calling police to report what he had done.
Authorities have not revealed a possible motive or explained what may have happened immediately before the deadly attack.
Harrington reportedly told investigators that he had been sober since 2007 and had previously been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder.
On his Facebook page, Harrington described himself as a life coach and an “intuitive healer.”
In a disturbing twist, he had posted a video shortly before his mother’s death in which he described himself as “one of Christ’s white knights” and talked extensively about forgiveness and healing.
“We have to forgive people from our past,” Harrington said in the video.
He warned that people who do not “open up your heart to heal” could continue making the same mistakes.
Harrington also claimed he had written down the names of everyone who had ever hurt him and forgiven them.
Hours later, authorities say his mother was dead.
Harrington remains locked up in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 5.
