An Indianapolis kindergarten teacher admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student — and many people are shocked after learning she’ll spend only 40 days behind bars.
According to court records, 24-year-old Torrie Lemon pleaded guilty Thursday to one felony count of child seduction tied to a relationship with a female student at Colonial Christian School.
Lemon received a four-year sentence, but all except 40 days was suspended. She will also serve 1,420 days of probation.
Investigators say the inappropriate relationship began in January 2025 while Lemon was working as a kindergarten teacher at the Indianapolis Christian school.
According to police documents, the student told investigators the relationship initially started as a friendship before Lemon allegedly began discussing her attraction to women and making sexual comments.
The teen reportedly told police she never wanted the relationship to become physical.
“Victim advised she never intended their relationship to be sexual, and they wanted it to just be a friendship because they knew it was wrong,” the arrest affidavit stated.
Authorities alleged the relationship later turned sexual, with incidents reportedly happening on school property, inside Lemon’s apartment, and at the student’s family home.
Court documents claim Lemon first kissed the student during a school trip to Wabash, Indiana.
Investigators say the pair also exchanged numerous text messages discussing romantic feelings and intimate encounters.
“I love you more than I can describe,” one message allegedly sent by Lemon read. “I love my girl. Thank you for an amazing night and morning.”
The student’s parents reportedly told police they noticed Lemon becoming unusually close with their daughter but allegedly did not realize how serious the relationship had become.
According to investigators, the teen’s mother noticed the teacher was buying gifts and flowers for her daughter only weeks after they became friends.
The girl’s father reportedly knew the pair hugged, cuddled, and kissed, but court documents said he did not want Lemon fired.
Police documents also stated the student allegedly asked her father questions about Indiana’s age-of-consent laws.
The relationship was eventually exposed during a school trip to South Carolina after another student reportedly discovered photos of the pair kissing on the victim’s phone.
That student allegedly alerted school staff, triggering the investigation.
According to court records, Lemon later admitted to South Carolina police she was “having an inappropriate relationship with a student from our school.”
Colonial Christian School said it immediately placed Lemon on leave after learning about the allegations in April 2025.

Several red flags were ignored by the parents. Why?
