An Indiana mother was killed after police say she stepped in to protect her son during a Facebook Marketplace meetup that turned deadly.
Jean Gragg was shot around 9:50 p.m. on June 10 in South Bend, according to the South Bend Police Department.
Police said Gragg’s son had arranged to sell a watch through Facebook Marketplace and met with 18-year-old John Ford on the front porch.
But the sale allegedly turned into an attempted robbery.
According to police, Ford pulled out a gun and tried to grab the watch from Gragg’s son.
That is when Gragg stepped in.
Authorities said the mother got in front of her son and chased Ford away from the property.
Police allege Ford then pointed the handgun toward the porch and fired, striking Gragg before running off.
Gragg was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She died days later from her injuries.
Police said they later found Ford at an apartment complex in South Bend, along with the gun allegedly used in the shooting.
Ford has been charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery, according to police.
It was not immediately clear whether he had entered a plea.

His name is John Ford, which is a surprise. I was expecting something like D’MariJy’Quan or Quaneek. Real American names by the way.
