Panhandler Stabs Man After He Refuses to Hand Over Money, Then Gives Cops Bizarre Excuse

A Florida man is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly stabbed another man in the arm for refusing to give him money, then offered police a bizarre explanation about what had happened.

Michael Jason Knight, 49, was arrested following the violent incident Thursday night in Miami-Dade County, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office were called to the Twin Lakes condominium complex in the 26000 block of Southwest 135th Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man who was bleeding and appeared to be dead.

When officers arrived, they found the victim lying near the front door of a home with a stab wound to his arm and bleeding heavily.

A knife was discovered on the ground beside him near a pool of blood, according to the affidavit.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.

The injured man identified Knight as the person who allegedly attacked him. He told investigators Knight had come to his front door and asked for money.

When the victim refused, Knight allegedly became enraged, pulled out a knife and slashed him in the arm.

Another person inside the home managed to wrestle the knife away from Knight and called 911. Authorities did not reveal how Knight and the victim knew each other.

As investigators worked at the scene, Knight allegedly blurted out, “We were just kissing,” though police did not explain what he meant by the remark.

Knight was taken to a police station for questioning, but his behavior reportedly grew even more erratic.

According to the affidavit, he urinated on the table and floor inside the interview room before becoming uncooperative with detectives.

Knight was later booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail on an attempted murder charge.

He remains behind bars without bond. His next court date was not immediately available.
