A newborn baby found dead inside a portable toilet at Michigan’s Electric Forest music festival was born alive and was capable of surviving outside the womb, authorities have revealed.

The infant’s body was discovered by a maintenance worker on the morning of June 28 in a port-a-potty located in the camping area of the festival in Rothbury, Michigan, according to the Michigan State Police.

Investigators have not publicly identified a suspect in the disturbing case.

On Monday, the FBI announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the baby’s death.

A woman from Muskegon was previously questioned by state police after investigators received a tip, but authorities said she has since been ruled out as a suspect.

In a July 13 update, Michigan State Police said preliminary autopsy results showed that “the infant was viable and was born alive.”

The annual Electric Forest festival is held at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury and attracts tens of thousands of music fans. The event features dozens of electronic and jam-band performances.

This year’s headliners included Illenium, Kaskade and the String Cheese Incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are continuing to ask the public for help.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Michigan State Police by submitting a tip through Michigan.gov/MichTip or by calling 1-855-MICH-TIP at 1-855-642-4847.
